Dr. Barnes is originally from Southern California and joined the Gateway team in 2024. She was inspired to work in animal care by her time living in Nebraska, where she worked alongside a veterinarian who cared for a wide range of species. She went on to earn her DVM degree from Colorado State University, graduating with the highest honors. Dr. Barnes’ professional areas of interest include internal medicine, ophthalmology, and radiology, and she finds the most satisfying part of her work to be the ability to be of service to pets and their people.
Dr. Barnes shares her home with her partner Duncan and a Yorkie named Violet, who, along with 63 other dogs, was a rescue from a puppy mill. Dr. Barnes worked at a shelter at the time and spayed them all—and decided to adopt Violet for her own. Duncan and Dr. Barnes have two grown daughters, Anastasia and Adrienne, and one grandson. In her free time, Dr. Barnes is an avid reader, and also enjoys drawing and oil painting. Other interests include gardening, dancing, and rock and roll—sometimes, simultaneously.
Dr. Barnes is a member of the Pinellas County Veterinary Medical Society and the American Veterinary Medical Society.
