Dr. John McLemore earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Auburn University in 1982. Before beginning his college studies, he served in the U.S. Army as an air traffic controller stationed in Korea. Dr. McLemore moved to the St. Petersburg area in 1983 and purchased Gateway Animal Hospital in 1987, later relocating the practice to its current, much larger home in 1994. His professional areas of interest include radiology and internal medicine, and he also performs ultrasonography at the hospital.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. McLemore is an avid golfer, with a hole in one on the 17th hole at Vinoy Golf Club among his proudest moments on the course. He is also a devoted local sports fan who happily cheers on both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tampa Bay Rays.
Dr. McLemore has long been active in his profession. He served as president of the Pinellas County Veterinary Medical Society in 1995 and received the FVMA Gold Star Award for outstanding service to the veterinary profession in 1996. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, the Florida Veterinary Medical Association, and the Pinellas County Veterinary Medical Society.
